Magazine Clippings + Journal = Happiness

I used to be REALLY into collages. I gave everyone collaged picture frames for Christmas, and I had a giant wall collage in our bedroom growing up. I was always clipping out cute sayings and pictures out of all the magazines in our house. I hadn't done that in a long time, but I realized that I missed it. I used to decorate the inside of my journals as well, so I decided to jump back in and do the same with my current journal.

Jared bought this journal for me for Valentine's Day, and I loved how summer-y and flowery it was. Since I'm pretty obsessed with plants these days, I decided that would be my theme. (If any of y'all decided to do a collage of your own, you don't have to have a theme. You can do whatever strikes your fancy!)

So, if you'd like to make a collage, here's a list of things to get you started:

  • pen or pencil
  • washi tape or some other decorative tape
  • gluestick
  • newspaper or magazine clippings/scrapbook paper or supplies like Project Life cards. I got mine at Target.  (P.S. Magazines that have lots of ads are great places to find cute sayings and funny things to clip. If you're looking for a specific theme of clippings, check out magazines about that subject. A lot of these clippings came from Garden and Gun magazine.)
  • scissors

That list is by no means exhaustive, I just used things I already had around the house.

I sorted through all my magazine clippings and pulled out any that I thought would fit in with my theme and started arranging them on the inside cover and first page of my journal.

Once I decided I liked how it looked, I took everything off, and started prepping my background. I added strips of funky tape (I got this tape at Target as well for around $2.99, and it's a big roll). I didn't want very much of the dark pink showing through, so I made sure to add the strips where there was negative space in my collage.

After that, I just started picking up each piece and gluing it back down again.

The card at the top that says, "here's the story" is a Project Life card.

Journaling is a huge part of my life.  I use my journal for a ton of different things, and I love seeing how other people decorate their journals, so please send me a picture of y'all's!
