I apologize in advance for all the Christmas decoration photos, but that's what I've been doing this week!

Have you ever seen a cuter dog?

Ophelia doesn't care about Christmas, but she does like the decorations.

Our bedroom tree!

Our kitchen tree!

This "tree" is in the studio. I wanted to make something different for my music students!

This is Ophelia's tree. She's such a creeper.
AND LOOK! Something not Christmas-related!

It's Puck being weird!!!
I  hope y'all are already in the holiday spirit! If you don't celebrate Christmas, what kind of traditions are you preparing for? I love getting to know y'all!

Woodland Adventures. In a Skirt.

My sister Katie is a really awesome photographer, and I've been wanting some cute photos of myself because, well, who doesn't want to have a few photos of themselves where they look put together and cute? I normally run around my house (my town, my life) wearing junky clothes and a hoodie because most of my jobs require me to get messy. This was a nice chance to dress up and hang out with my sister. We tromped off to Rope Mill Park in Woodstock at WAYTOOEARLY in the morning, so we could "catch the light," Katie said.

It was FREEZING. But, she made me look cute, so I'll forgive her.

Their Eyes Were Watching God is my all-time favorite novel. Zora Neale Hurston is, as a writer, a genius. As an individual, she was also pretty incredible. I read her autobiography called Dust Tracks on a Road, and I was blown away. I would name a child Zora if Jared would agree to it.

It was such a fun day to spend with Katie. She's amazing. If you're interested in having her do some photos, here's her information!

I love how funky and homey our living room is starting to look!

Jared thought this would be a funny moment to capture. I was FREEZING, so I when I heard the heat kick on, I ran over to snuggle with the vent. Puck helped.

I love it when packages can look cute! I hope it made it there looking cute!

This is supposedly a hybrid tea rose and it is HUGE! I was so excited when it bloomed. I love the picture of me and Jared in that frame. We're making weird faces at each other.

Ophelia has not recovered from Thanksgiving/Black Friday. When I woke up this morning, she was on my pillow. No wonder I had dreams of something licking my hair all night.
I hope your Thanksgiving this year was the best yet! My family had a wonderful get-together and it was absolutely lovely! Unfortunately, I didn't document any of it. Anyway, I hope everyone that can is taking it easy today and recovering!

In My Mind, I'm Goin' to Carolina

Technically speaking, Jared and I have gone to Carolina and come back already, but who can resist quoting James Taylor?

Jared and I went to Bryson City in North Carolina to stay at his grandmother's cabin. (I first talked about the cabin here.) This went up on Sunday and came back home today. We took our time getting up there on Sunday and were basically bums; we watched Modern Family and pigged out on potato soup! I didn't realize it, but we were resting up for our trip to Clingman's Dome. It turns out, Jared was about to pull a fast one on me.

Jared has been looking forward to seeing Clingman's Dome for a while. It's all he's talked about ever since we planned on this trip. We drove up to the lookout point and the view was spectacular!

I thought that was all there was, but Jared said--at the last minute--"Oh, there's a small hike. Just so you know."
Jared has always wanted to hike the Appalachian Trail.

That was a sneaky, sneaky trick. We had to climb a really long hill (mountain. it was a mountain.) in order to get to the observation tower. I had to stop 98,709 times before we got to the top. It was a little embarrassing, but it was beautiful.

The views are breathtaking!

The road to Clingman's Dome is still icy and snowy from Superstorm Sandy.

We decided to take Tuesday and hang out in town. Last time we came up to Bryson City, we stopped in this adorable bookstore sponsored by the Friends of the Marianna Black Library. They only take cash or checks, and last time we only brought our cards. NOT THIS TIME! Jared and I raided our change jar and brought A TON of change. We totally scored!

What's really cool is the bookstore used to be part of a grocery store that included an old fashioned soda fountain. So, Jared sat on one of the soda fountain stools and counted out our change.

The Smoky Mountain Railroad runs through town all the time.

Jared and I went to our favorite restaurant in town called Pasqualino's. It's a great little Italian place right on Main Street.  Walking there, I noticed how sad and alone Big Bertha looked on the bridge.

We also drove into Cherokee and we saw this crazy elk just hanging out in town!

It was really nice to relax with Jared.

I love our little getaway cabin.

And here's a little James Taylor to complete the trip.

Happy Thanksgiving!

I bought a new mirror at the thrift store, so of course we had to take some self portraits.
Silly faces.

This is the mirror. I only paid 12 bucks!

I also bought this wicked sweet basket for 3 dollars. I love the funky geometric weaving.
And I bought this cat carrier for 4 dollars. Ophelia already loves it!

We finally decided to hang up stuff in our staircase area. My mother-in-law gave me that embroidery. It was a wedding gift from their wedding 33 years ago!

I'm basically obsessed with this staircase area now.

I made Puck and Ophie matching bandannas!
And one more group shot!

This is the closest thing we have to a family photo.
In other news,  Puck and Ophelia met their new vet this week! Dr. Connie from Macedonia Mobile Vet is absolutely wonderful. Our old vet wasn't very nice, and for us it just didn't make sense to keep taking Puck to someone who obviously didn't appreciate Puck's natural...enthusiasm...for life. She was rude and hurried us out of the office. We left feeling like horrible pet owners and didn't even get the answers we were looking for. We decided we wouldn't be going back.  Dr. Connie came here and everything went great! I didn't cry! (I totally cried the last time we took her to the vet. IT WAS AWFUL.) Dr. Connie is the best!!!

Upcycled Downriver + Second Chance Store

I've got some exciting news! Upcycled Downriver is teaming up with Second Chance Store in Canton!

Second Chance Store is an extension of Action Church in Canton, GA, and all of the proceeds from the donated items go directly back into the community. This is from their website:

Because of your donations we are able to keep the store stocked which in return allows us to sell the items and use the profits to help Action Food Pantry, Community Clothesline, Action Celebrate Recovery Meeting, and in the future get the Action Distribution Center up and running.

I'm so excited that they asked me to be a part of their store!  They're giving local artists a great opportunity to sell their wares in the new Local Artist Boutique section of the store, and I hope y'all will go check out their store and support a wonderful source of help and encouragement in the community.

This Photo Friday is a day late because of a gas leak in my neighborhood that threw off my entire schedule!

Excuse my gross appearance but look at Puck's eyes! She really wants to be Ophelia's friend.

Sunday morning set at Action Church

Daddy is so hardcore. The sign says, "PER CITY OF CANTON FIRE CODE PLEASE NO ONE STANDING ALONG THE WALL."

Sweet Ophelia.

I made the most delicious potato soup this week! Here's the recipe.

A very, very blurry Puck emerging from her Ottoman of Isolation. She hangs out under there when she feels like we aren't paying enough attention to her.

Daddy is a gunsmith and when I went over yesterday he was running the bluing tanks. He looked like he should be in an episode of Breaking Bad.

Last night, my friends and I became trapped in our culdesac by emergency vehicles. There was a water leak that turned into a gas leak when the backhoe hit a gas line. Jared, Kim, Chrissie, and I decided to make cookie dough. We couldn't actually cook them, so we ate microwaved noodles and watched Harry Potter until the gas people came to relight our pilot light at 1:30 am. Gas leak party at my house!
I hope your week is amazing!
